Art Is A Healer x Thomas Mushet

At SWMSociety, we deeply believe in the healing power of art. It serves as a natural remedy for the soul—a way to meditate, medicate, elevate, and communicate through pure expression. Whether through social commentary, peaceful protest, or matters of the heart, Art Is A Healer. For our community of creatives, art is more than a passion; it is an essential luxury, a necessity that nourishes the soul just as food and water sustain the body. This collection embodies that truth, ensuring that the transformative power of art continues to thrive and uplift.

As part of this vision, each artist receives 50% of the proceeds from their designs, with an additional contribution made to the Art Is A Healer fund. This fund is dedicated to supporting the next generation of artistic healers, ensuring their voices and visions are nurtured.

Introducing Thomas Mushet

Thomas Mushet is a contemporary Scottish artist whose work merges bold visuals with deep social and political commentary. His creations blend painting and text, confronting issues such as war, inequality, and environmental degradation. Drawing inspiration from the Dada movement of the early 20th century, Mushet opposes war and the injustices of capitalist society, using his art as a form of resistance and awareness.

Largely self-taught, Mushet’s passion for art has been a lifelong pursuit. Having studied politics at university, he weaves political themes into his work, believing that creatives perceive the world differently—offering perspectives that challenge and inspire. His pieces have reached collectors and supporters across the Middle East, Europe, China, Japan, the U.S., and the U.K.

In Conversation with SWMSociety

What does art mean to you?
"Art to me is as important as food and water. Just as our bodies need sustenance, our souls need nourishment, and I believe art provides that."

How does your creative process begin?
"For me, the process starts within—through my conscience. I see the wrongs in the world and try to highlight them through my art. Words and debates don’t always lead to solutions, so with some of my work, I go to war—without the casualties."

How important is the message in your work?
"It’s paramount. My art fuses painting with words, and I hope it double slaps your senses, making you question everything."

What impact do you hope your art has on others?
"I want my art to shape and awaken people. My inspiration comes from interactions, experiences, and travel. I want my work to challenge perspectives and spark change."

What influences your artistic style?
"I love abstract art and any piece with a message—often subjective, open to interpretation. I take inspiration from the Dada movement and artists of that era. Like them, I use art to challenge war, inequality, and the failures of capitalism."

How did you develop your craft?
"I am largely self-taught, but art has always been a passion of mine. Studying politics at university helped shape my perspective, and I try to fuse those ideas into my work. Creatives see the world differently, and through my art, I aim to express those competing ideas."
